JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria 2025
To be eligible for JEE Advanced, a candidate must first clear the JEE Main exam and rank among the top. They should be in the top 20% of their Class 12 board exams or score at least 75% (65% for SC/ST). Only students younger than 25 years (30 for SC/ST) can apply, and they get a maximum of three attempts. Additionally, candidates must not have accepted admission to an IIT in the past.

Age Limit for JEE Advanced 2025
As per the released JEE Advanced Eligibility criteria, candidates must meet the age limit criteria to appear for the examination. The general limit is that candidates should be born on or after October 01, 2000. For reserved category candidates (SC, ST, and PwD), the age limit is relaxed by 5 years, meaning they should be born on or after October 1, 1995.
Educational Qualification for JEE Advanced 2025
- To appear for JEE Advanced, a student must have completed their 12th grade or equivalent from a recognized board with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
- They should have secured at least 75% marks (or be in the top 20 percentile) in their 12th exams.
- Students can also be eligible if they are appearing for their 12th exams in the same year.
- Candidates are also informed that all those who appeared for the class 10+2 exam in 2022 or earlier are not eligible.
- Additionally, they must have cleared JEE Main to qualify for JEE Advanced.
Number of Attempts for JEE Advanced 2025
The number of attempts for JEE Advanced has now been increased to three times. Earlier, students could appear for the exam only twice, but this change gives them an extra chance to improve their performance. This new rule is helpful for students who may not perform well in their first or second attempt, giving them a better opportunity to qualify for top engineering colleges. It provides more flexibility and reduces the pressure on students, allowing them to prepare better for the exam and perform to the best of their abilities.
JEE Mains Scores
You can appear for JEE Advanced if you qualify for JEE Mains by securing a rank within the top 2.5 lakh candidates. Only those who clear JEE Mains are eligible to take JEE Advanced. This rule applies to all categories of candidates. You are allowed to attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times, in consecutive years. The eligibility is based on your JEE Mains rank, and no additional educational qualifications are required for this.

Earlier Admission to the IITs
- If a candidate has been admitted to an IIT before, even if they didn’t continue with the program or didn’t accept the seat, they are not allowed to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025.
- Candidates who were admitted to a preparatory course in any IIT for the first time in 2024 can still appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025.
- Candidates whose admission to any IIT was cancelled after they joined are also not eligible for JEE (Advanced) 2025.
- Candidates who were given a seat in an IIT through JoSAA 2024 but did not report online or at any reporting center, Withdrew before the last round of seat allotment or had their seat cancelled before the last round of seat allotment, are eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) 2025.
JEE Mains Eligibility Criteria for Foreign Students
- The JEE Advanced 2025 application process will be open to all Indian nationals.
- International candidates are eligible to apply, though they will represent less than 10% of the total Special Need Quota (SNQ).
- Candidates must have completed their Class 12 exams during the academic year 2025-2026 to qualify.
