The Central Board of Secondary Education will now conduct the Board Exams in a Twice-a-year system from the academic session 2024-25. In a recent interaction with the Senior Official of the Ministry of Education, a confirmation about the multiple board formats in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X and XII examination system came up. All the students who are going to appear for the Class 10th and 12th CBSE Board Exams from session 2024-25 will become the first batch to get this Twice-a-year CBSE opportunity.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be conducting the first multiple board exams — barring the one instance in 2021 when the exam had to be split into two due to COVID-19. In October 2023, an interview with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said “twice-a-year board format would be implemented starting with the 2024-25 school year“. The announcement signifies a major shift as CBSE is set to implement twice-a-year board exams starting from academic session 2024-25.
As per the new Twice-a-year system, the CBSE Board Exams 2025 will first conducted in November-December 2024 and secondly will commence in February-March 2024. The new Twice-a-year system is not mandatory. The final CBSE results will be made from the best of the two scores. This move not only allows students to better manage their study schedules but also provides a chance for improvement and a more comprehensive evaluation of their knowledge.
Recognizing the need for a more flexible and student-friendly assessment system, the Ministry of Education worked towards this innovative approach. Also, Minister Pradhan, in his interview, outlined the government’s vision to enhance the examination structure and reduce the stress on students. The move towards biannual board examinations aims to provide students with no fear of missing out on a single opportunity and demonstrate their academic skills. The decision comes after careful consideration of feedback from various stakeholders, including educators, parents, and students.
Minister Pradhan emphasized that the biannual format aligned with the government’s commitment to fostering a holistic and student-centric education system. It encourages continuous learning and adaptation rather than relying solely on a single high-stakes examination. CBSE is actively working on the logistical aspects of implementing this new format, ensuring a smooth transition for schools, teachers, and students. The move is expected to have a positive impact on the mental well-being of students, reducing the pressure associated with a single annual examination.
