Herodotus is the Father of History, He was the first Greek and also the first Western historian. A few scientist call him just a “story-teller,” which was no surprise for many. What they meant was that Herodotus just made things up in his mind, another word for which is "liar." While a few had little good to say about Herodotus and thought his attempt to recapture the long gone past foolhardy. History, for few, means contemporary, or near-contemporary, history, with an emphasis on politics and warfare. In his Histories, Herodotus wrote about Egypt, Scythia, Persia, and other countries, he took up the study of customs and moeurs among them, as might a modern anthropologist.
Is is said that, Herodotus sometimes relays inaccurate information or exaggerates for effect, his accounts have consistently been found to be more or less reliable. Early criticism of his work has been refuted by later archaeological evidence which proves that his most often criticized claims were, in fact, accurate or, at least, based on accepted information of the time. In the present day, Herodotus continues to be recognized as The Father of History and a reliable source of information on the ancient world by the majority of historians. Herodotus believed that the universe is ruled by Fate and Chance, and that nothing is stable in human affairs. Moral choice is still important, however, since arrogance (Hubris) brings down upon itself the retribution of the gods (Nemesis).
