This award is presented annually at the National Film Awards by the organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting which is the Directorate of Film. About Dadasaheb Phalke Award 

Dada Saheb Phalke is recognised as the “father of Indian cinema”,the award, Dada Saheb Phalke Award is given to commemorate the contribution of this Indian filmmaker. Dada saheb Phalke was the first Indian filmmaker who directed India's First Fill-length feature film, namely, Raja Harishchandra in the year 1913. The Dada Saheb Phalke Award Winners are given a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹10 lakh. Some prominent personalities such as Asha Parekh, Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Asha Bhonsle, Lata Mangeshkar, Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar and many more are awarded this prestigious honour.
