West Bengal SSC Recruitment Scam: Over 25,753 Teaching and Non Teaching Staff Lose jobs

The Supreme Court has confirmed the Calcutta High Court’s decision to cancel the entire 2016 recruitment panel of the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC). The Supreme Court has described the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment scandal as a “systemic fraud.” The court found that the hiring process was full of corruption, making it hard to tell who was rightfully selected and who wasn’t. This means over 25,753 teachers and non-teaching staff have lost their jobs.

The state government has been told to start a fresh recruitment process within three months. Those who were not involved in any wrongdoing can apply again. People who lost their jobs must return the salaries they received. Also, those who left other government jobs to join WBSSC can return to their old positions if they apply within three months. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will continue its probe into the case, and the Supreme Court has also allowed an investigation into the state cabinet.

The Supreme Court has upheld the cancellation of over 25,000 teaching and non-teaching staff appointments made by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) in 2016, citing widespread fraud and manipulation in the selection process. The Court has directed the state government to initiate a fresh recruitment process within three months. Individuals who were not involved in any misconduct are permitted to reapply. Additionally, on humanitarian grounds, the Court has allowed disabled employees to retain their current positions.
