The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the final result of UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024 on 22nd April 2025, including the names of 1,009 successful candidates selected for top administrative roles. This year, Shakti Dubey, a 30 year old lady from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, secured the All India Rank 1 (AIR 1), scoring a total of 1043 marks. marking the beginning of a significant milestone in the career of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

For the UPSC CSE Exam 2024, more than 9 lakh candidates applied for the exam. As per the UPSC Final Result 2025, a total of 1129 candidates secured their name in the final merit lists out of 1056 have been recommended for posts in various services like the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and Central Services, Group ‘A’ and Group ‘B’.

Shakti Dubey has completed her graduation and post-graduation in Biochemistry. In her UPSC journey, she has opted for Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) as her optional subject. She chose PSIR because of her increasing interest in governance, international affairs, and the subject’s dynamic nature. Many top performers, including her, have found PSIR to provide an effective combination of theoretical and practical content, which is especially beneficial for essay writing and interview preparation.

Shakti Dubey’s Family Background

​The Shakti Dubey, Father Mrs. Devendra Kumar Dubey serves as a sub-inspector in the Uttar Pradesh Police, Mrs. Prema Dubey, a homemaker, played an important role in Shakti’s educational journey by providing unwavering support and ensuring she had everything needed to focus on her studies. She has a twin sister, Pragati, who is also an UPSC aspirant but did not clear it this year.

In a recent mock interview at an IAS coaching academy, Shakti shared that her father’s profession inspired her to pursue a career in civil service. “I grew up in a family where my father works in the police service, and I have seen him in action within the government”. She said, “I noticed how the presence of a police vehicle could make a person feel safe, especially when I was returning late from campus. This led me to realize how even small power can bring about change for someone and how public service, in general, benefits people.”

Shakti Dubey Preparation Strategy

Shakti Dubey said, “I worked hard for many years. I told everyone at home that they are all very happy. It was hard to believe at first, but the feeling is slowly sinking in… My brother had predicted I would secure the first rank…” Sharing her Preparation Strategy for aspirants, Dubey said that they must work with a minimum book list and focus more on the questions from previous years. She also suggested taking multiple mock tests to get used to the exam’s conditions and focus on repeated revisions of the study material.

Shakti Dubey also conveyed a supportive message to those aspiring to clear the UPSC examination, advising them not to be too harsh on themselves if they do not succeed. She said, “Always remember that this is just an examination. It is not more important than life. If you are confident that you can improve and if your family is supportive, that is all you need,”
